The Spirited Union Distillery has launched what it claims is the world’s first botanical white rum.
The Amsterdam-based venue is a botanical rum distillery, which opened its doors to bartenders and consumers, allowing them to explore the world of botanical rum. The popular visitor destination offers masterclasses where consumers can distill their own botanically-flavoured rum using individual copper stills.
Union Lemon & Leaf Rum is the second expression in the Spirited Union Rum range, following the darker Union Spice & Sea Salt, which was launched earlier this year. The newcomer is an Agricole-style rum from Mauritius, made with lemons grown along the Amalfi Coast. Spirited Union distills blue eucalyptus leaves to create a balance of lemon and herbal flavours and this is combined with Sri Lankan Highland black tea. These flavours combine with kina bark and Sarawak pepper and Sarsaparilla root.
Founder, Ruben Maduro, said: “Our quest is to create union between the vast and colourful world of botanicals – giving birth to vibrant and exciting botanical rums. The Spirited Union Distillery is a botanical rum distillery on a mission to introduce a new approach to rum; one away from artificial aromas and sickly-sweet spirits.
“We have a flavour-first approach, working with nothing but the finest natural botanicals to create vibrant and exciting new tastes and we’re excited to launch our botanical Union Lemon & Leaf Rum which can be enjoyed with tonic, a botanical mixer or shaken in delicious cocktails.
"Inspired by my upbringing on the Caribbean island of Aruba, I wanted to create a rum that was real and honest. By re-distilling and infusing rums from across the world, with real natural botanicals, we have created an exciting new type of rum that looks beyond tradition.”
Spirited Union has appointed Jon Everid as UK brand ambassador. Everid has spent 10 years working in rum including a stint as general manager at rum bar Trailer Happiness, and at Mahiki in Dubai. He will be working alongside UK distributor, Drinksology Group.
The two rums will be available from The Drinksology Group in the UK from this week.
